Türkiye İş Bankası Artworks Collection is one of the oldest and most comprehensive collections in Turkey. The Collection, which started in 1940 with the purchase of Hikmet Onat’s Landscape Ortaköy, Şevket Dağ’s Rüstem Pasha Mosque Interior and Hasan Vecih Bereketoğlu’s Boat and Houses paintings, now includes more than 2,700 works by more than 900 artists. This distinguished collection, accumulated over the years and carefully preserved by Türkiye İş Bankası, enabled the formation of the Türkiye İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum.
The permanent exhibition selection of the Türkiye İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum, which was opened to visitors on October 29, 2023 as a gift to the 100th anniversary of our Republic, was opened by Prof. Dr. Curated by Gül İrepoğlu; It has been prepared chronologically, thematically and conceptually. The permanent exhibition titled “Watching Turkish Painting” is located on the 5th and 4th floors of the Museum.
On the 5th floor, which is also the beginning of the exhibition route; The works of the pioneers of Turkish painting of the end of the 19th century – the beginning of the 20th century, the painters of the 1914 Generation and the artists of the early period of the Republic are included. Special titles such as Sea Excitement, Anatolian Inspirations, and Women’s Portraits within the flow of the exhibition also add liveliness to this artistic journey. On this floor, there are works of leading artists of Turkish Painting such as Osman Hamdi Bey, Hoca Ali Rıza, Süleyman Seyyid Bey, Şeker Ahmet Pasha.
The Permanent Exhibition continues on the 4th floor and offers the audience a selection dating from the mid-20th century to the present. In the flow of the exhibition, the viewer; It meets with the colorful and innovative works of Group d artists such as Nurullah Berk, Abidin Dino, Zeki Faik İzer, Elif Naci, Cemal Tollu and sculptor Zühtü Müridoğlu, witnesses the world of Eyüboğlu, and reflects the reflections of contemporary individuality such as Devrim Erbil, Özdemir Altan, Burhan Doğançay, Bedri Baykam. follows from the works of artists. Special titles such as What Experience Brings, From the Animal World, Art in the Old Gardens, and Art in the Apartment Living Room also add liveliness to this artistic journey.
